Fri-Son X État des Choses X Padou N°2 // Nov 2021 (scroll down for pictures)
For the new season of the concert hall "Fri-Son" in Fribourg, I had the chance to contribute to a new series of flyers in postcard format. The aim was to highlight "Fri-Son" as well as "État des Choses" and the artist in question, i.e. me (PADOU). The visual in question has also been declined in Posters for the November-December season of "Fri-Son", in the streets.
This image is an interpretation of a poem by Ulayya bint al-Mahdi (777-825 A.D., Baghdad)
The poem: I held back my love's name and kept repeating it to myself. Oh how I long for an empty space to call out the name I love.
Text on the Postcard: In an empty space I want to shout out the name of my beloved. In a place where no one can hear me, in a place that may not exist, but that I long for. Heaven, I thought to myself, heaven is man's greatest longing, a perfect place, immortal, perfect and deserted. Like a machine, I think this one name, repeating it over and over and over. Through love itself, I become a machine: in the repetition of emotions, in the repetition of desires, like a printer constantly spitting out the same name. It is not a bad feeling, " au contraire ": a floating, a subtle and sweet " je ne sais quoi " which, like cotton candy caresses the lips to disappear suddenly on the tongue. A perfection in imperfection, an idealized longing that doesn't exist, but exists nonetheless. Can you catch clouds?
