Poivre & Sel Magazine
Editorial Design for the Socialist Party of Fribourg
For the redesign of Poivre & Sel, the magazine of the Socialist Party of Fribourg, I aimed to refresh its visual identity by blending the aesthetic of vintage newspapers with a contemporary design approach that resonates with readers of all ages.
I chose Young Serif as the headline typeface — bold and elegant, it references the authority of traditional print while remaining modern and accessible. Instead of using a classic halftone, I worked with bitmap textures to evoke the grain and tactility of old press techniques in a way that feels current. These bitmap-based illustrations, which vary depending on the issue's theme, allow for visual variety while maintaining a cohesive, unified aesthetic.
The party’s signature red color is preserved as a strong identity marker. For the cover design, I used the outline of the PS logo as a framing device, inserting a different image in each edition to reflect its topic — a graphic gesture linking political engagement and visual storytelling.
This design direction revitalizes Poivre & Sel, making it more engaging, readable, and intergenerational, while honoring its legacy and anchoring it firmly in the present.
